About
My journey into technology started in my childhood, sparked by programming with BASIC. As I progressed through my teens, my interest deepened, leading me from GW-BASIC to Turbo Pascal and Turbo C during high school, where I aimed to master the tools used by professionals.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked extensively with C and C++, focusing on system-level applications that challenged me to hone my skills in operating systems and real-time applications. This practical experience laid the groundwork for my subsequent projects and roles.
In 2012, I was involved in a pioneering project using C++, CUDA, and assembly to process and alter digital video streams in real-time. This project aimed to innovate in the way digital advertisements were integrated into live events, requiring a blend of real-time processing and creative problem-solving.
My technical skill set also includes proficient use of advanced version control systems, which has significantly enhanced my ability to manage and contribute to large-scale projects efficiently. This expertise reflects my proactive approach to adopting and improving technology.
My engagement with Linux began during university and significantly shaped my technical path. I contributed to various open-source projects, particularly those enhancing multimedia capabilities on Linux, such as MPlayer and ffmpeg. Early projects, including optimizing a script for my father’s business, were invaluable, teaching me the power of efficient coding.
Professionally, I’ve applied my skills in various settings. At Philips, I worked on developing a Java VM compatible GUI that included advanced graphical effects. My academic pursuits included valuable time at the Catholic University of Leuven, where I expanded my knowledge in real-time systems and robotics software.
My tenure at the University of Hasselt involved collaborating on projects that merged networking and multimedia. This included developing systems for real-time video encoding and streaming, where I was responsible for both the technical setup and the software development.
As a freelancer, I’ve undertaken diverse projects, from enhancing digital video streaming for healthcare to developing web applications that improve manufacturing processes. My work with web technologies like Django and ReactJS reflects my ongoing commitment to adapting and learning in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
I am deeply invested in the open-source community and value continuous learning. Participating in industry conferences allows me to stay connected with the tech community, ensuring my contributions are thoughtful and meaningful.
